Flow Characteristics of Bulb Tubular Turbine Based on Solid-liquid Two-phase Flow Model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
This study examines the operational efficiency of a bulb tubular turbine under solid-liquid two-phase (SLTP) flow conditions. By employing the Euler-Euler method, the characteristics of SLTP flow in the turbine with different solid particle diameters ...

Two-Objective Optimization of a Kaplan Turbine Draft Tube Using a Response Surface Methodology

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The overall cost of a hydropower plant is mainly due to the expenses of civil works, mechanical equipment (turbine and control units) and electrical components.

Numerical and experimental investigation of the effect of baffles on flow instabilities in a Francis turbine draft tube under partial load conditions

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
An improved method for preventing vortex rope formation and alleviating the associated pressure fluctuations in turbine draft tubes is investigated using baffles in the draft tube to hinder the swirling flow emerging from a Francis turbine runner.

Solid Cycle Times of Chickpeas in Draft Tube Conical Spouted Beds

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
The growing demand for alternative energy sources has furthered the interest on biomass over the last decades. Thus, a hydrodinamic study of conical spouted beds equipped with draft tube has been carried out for biomass, specifically, chickpeas.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Manipulation of the swirling flow instability in hydraulic turbine diffuser by different methods of water injection [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
Vortex rope, which induces substantial pressure pulsations, arises in the draft tube (diffuser) of Francis turbine for off-design operating conditions.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.
