Use of drag coefficient to predict dispersion coefficients in emergent vegetation at low velocities

open access: yes, 2018
Existing functions for predicting transverse and longitudinal dispersion coefficient within vegetation are dependent on the drag coefficient. This paper focuses on comparing drag coefficients and on comparing predictions of dispersion coefficient derived

Variations in Satellite Charge Drag Coefficient With Solar Cycle

open access: yes
Ionospheric plasma interaction with charged satellite surfaces can lead to a substantial increase in orbital drag. In this context, natural events related to solar activity can have a detrimental effect on a satellite's lifespan and introduce uncertainty

Pre‐Curved Everting Robots With Embedded Steering Intelligence Fabricated by CO2 Laser Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Design and experimental demonstration of a laser welded growing robot for anatomically guided navigation. The robot follows an aortic arch phantom entering the branchiocephalic branch through steering by design. The figure shows the physical phantom setup, CAD defined weld geometry and full robot eversion.

System Identification of Robotic Fish Swimming Reveals Roles of Reactive and Resistive Fluid Force in Two Distinct Swimming Gaits

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
System identification and particle image velocimetry reveal how a modular robotic fish changes thrust physics across gaits. A traveling‐wave, fish‐like motion draws thrust from resistive drag, while a resonant standing‐wave motion is driven by reactive pressure.

Liquid Jetting‐Based Miniature Robotic Navigation in Confined Fluidic Spaces

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We introduce a new class of liquid‐jetting‐based miniature robots (JetBots) ranging in size from mm‐to‐cm, featuring a unified approach in design, fabrication, and actuation. They demonstrate fast locomotion (30.3 cm/s), rapid steering (648.8°/s), and diverse functions, such as puncturing soft materials and unlimited cargo sampling and delivery, paving
