A Regulatory‐Developmental Turn Within EU Industrial Policy? The Case of the Battery IPCEIs

open access: yesPolitics and Governance
The European automotive industry is transitioning from combustion engines to electric vehicles but lags behind international competitors. This geoeconomic competition has contributed to the revival of industrial policy in the EU.

Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

NARCISSISM IN POSTMODERN SOCIETY AND SCHOOLS: THE INFLUENCE OF NEOLIBERAL VALUES ON THE BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

open access: yesInnovative Issues and Approaches in Social Sciences
This article examines narcissism as a cultural and educational problem in late-modern societies, arguing that neoliberal values—competition, performativity, and market-like evaluations shape children’s and adolescents’ self-understanding and behavior ...

Preparing Preservice Teachers for the Experimental Design and Data Analysis SOL\u27s [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Many elementary teachers find teaching the science Standards of Learning (SOL) difficult [1, 2]. Some are even threatened by them. Of particular concern are the SOLs related to experimental design, handling data, and the scientific method.

Bioinspired Polypeptide Dendrimer‐Modified Thin‐Film Composite Membranes for Selective Lithium‐Magnesium Separation with DFT Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We fabricated a biomimetic dendrimer‐modified thin‐film nanocomposite membrane with a coordination‐assisted ion‐selective interface. pH‐responsive polypeptide sites preferentially bind Mg2+ and promote Li+ permeation, as predicted by density functional theory calculations of metal‐ligand interactions.

Microfinance tradeoffs : regulation, competition, and financing [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper describes important trade-offs that microfinance practitioners, donors, and regulators navigate. Drawing evidence from large, global surveys of microfinance institutions, the authors find a basic tension between meeting social goals and ...

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

Bio‐Inspired Magnetically Tunable Structural Colors from Elliptical Self‐Assembled Block Copolymer Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cephalopod‐inspired photonic microparticles with dynamic structural coloration are fabricated via confined self‐assembly of linear block copolymers into ellipsoids containing stacked lamellae. Embedded superparamagnetic nanoparticles enable rapid magnetic alignment, restoring vivid, angle‐dependent color.

Elimination of Competitors: Some Economics of Payment Card Associations [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper analyzes platforms and rejections in two-sided markets with network externalities, using the specific context of a payment card association. We study the cooperative antitrust determination of the interchange fee by member banks.

Prenucleation Species Dictate Foreign Ion Incorporation in the Biomineral Precursor Amorphous Calcium Carbonate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ACC forms via aggregating prenucleation clusters that gatekeep its chemical composition. Ion identity steers the path: Ba and Sr substitute Ca in clusters, thereby inhibiting nucleation, with a dose‐dependent switch of Sr to induction. Mg partitions into Mg‐rich and Mg‐poor clusters; the latter form ACC, expelling Mg.
