A Novel Approach to Energy Management in Electric Steelworks
steel research international, EarlyView.Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate electric energy consumptions of the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace processes. The models are used to optimize production schedule so that more energy intensive grades are produced when the cost of energy is lower.

steel research international, EarlyView.Hydrogen‐based direct reduced iron (H‐DRI) melts differently from scrap and carbon‐bearing DRI. This work combines differential scanning calorimetry experiments, FactSage thermodynamics, and simple composition‐based regression to predict solidus, liquidus, heat capacity, and enthalpy for H‐DRI.

Extreme rainfall in Madeira: the June 2023 weather event
Weather, EarlyView.This study investigates the meteorological conditions behind the extreme precipitation event on 6 June 2023 over Madeira Island, Portugal. The event set a national daily record of 497.5mm and was unusual for occurring in early summer, as most extremes in the region occur in winter.
