Bearing capacity of pile by the theoretical method, by methods of static and dynamic sounding [PDF]

open access: yesСтроительство уникальных зданий и сооружений, 2014
The bearing capacity of single pile depends on the mechanical properties of the soil and the method of the device or a pile penetration. There are three methods of determining the bearing capacity of single piles: theoretical method, the dynamic ...

Pile and Pile Group Capacity: Some Findings from Centrifuge Tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The London Geotechnical Centrifuge Centre at City University London is a major experimental research facility for the Geotechnical Engineering Research Group. Some findings from two recent doctoral research projects are presented. The projects were aimed

Multi‐omics and low‐input proteomics profiling reveals dynamic regulation driving pluripotency initiation in early mouse embryos

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mouse pre‐implantation development involves a transition from totipotency to pluripotency. Integrating transcriptomics, epigenetic profiling, low‐input proteomics and functional assays, we show that eight‐cell embryos retain residual totipotency features, whereas cytoskeletal remodeling regulated by the ubiquitin‐proteasome system drives progression ...

Roughness of Sandpile Surfaces

open access: yes, 2003
We study the surface roughness of prototype models displaying self-organized criticality (SOC) and their noncritical variants in one dimension. For SOC systems, we find that two seemingly equivalent definitions of surface roughness yields different ...

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

The Effect of Improvement Surrounding Soil on Driven Pile Friction Capacity

open access: yesمجلة النهرين للعلوم الهندسية, 2017
There is very close relation between the pile  capacity and surrounding soil conditions . In cohesionless soil the pile effected on surround soil by compact loose ,cohesionless deposits through a combination of pile volume displacement and driving ...

Evolution of gaseous disk viscosity driven by supernova explosion in star-forming galaxies at high redshift

open access: yes, 2009
Motivated by Genzel et al.'s observations of high-redshift star-forming galaxies, containing clumpy and turbulent rings or disks, we build a set of equations describing the dynamical evolution of gaseous disks with inclusion of star formation and its ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Large Scale Tests on Buoyancy-Driven Vertical Piling Breakwater with Buoyancy-Driven Piles

open access: yesPROCEEDINGS OF COASTAL ENGINEERING, JSCE, 2008
This report describes the results of the large scale model tests on the buoyancy-driven vertical piling breakwater by using the buoyancy-driven piles. This breakwater consists of rows of steel pip. piles and each pile consists of upper and lower steel pipes.

Avalanche Merging and Continuous Flow in a Sandpile Model

open access: yes, 1999
A dynamical transition separating intermittent and continuous flow is observed in a sandpile model, with scaling functions relating the transport behaviors between both regimes.
