Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Leidenfrost evaporation of water droplet

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The present paper examines the behaviour of a single large droplet levitating over a hot surface, unsteady mass of the droplet, and heat transfer. It was assumed that the evaporation from the upper surface of the droplet is negligibly small compared with

Double-Pulse Triple-Wire MIG Welding of 6082-T6 Aluminum Alloy: Process Characteristics and Joint Performances

open access: yesMetals, 2021
High-efficiency and high-quality welding has always been the focus of welding research. This article proposes a novel double-pulse, triple-wire MIG welding process for the welding of 6082-T6 aluminum alloy.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Droplet transfer in synergic AC GMAW.

open access: yesDENKI-SEIKO[ELECTRIC FURNACE STEEL], 1990
AC GMA welding was carried out by using an inverter controlled welder which consists of a primary inverter to control the output level and a secondary inverter to control the polarity. The polarity of the base current in conventional synergic DC pulse welding was changed from electrode positive (EP) to electrode negative (EN), and one cycle one droplet ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Droplet size and morphology characterization for diesel sprays under atmospheric operating conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The shape of microscopic fuel droplets may differ from the perfect sphere, affecting their external surface area and thus the heat transfer with the surrounding gas.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Infrared radiation transfer through semitransparent windows supporting absorbing droplets

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2022
Water droplets are commonly observed on the inner or outer surface of solar energy conversion systems due to rain or condensation. These droplets affect the systems' efficiency and thermal load. This study experimentally and numerically investigates infrared radiation transfer through semitransparent windows covered with droplets on their front or back
