Neutron Drops and Skyrme Energy-Density Functionals
The J$^{\pi}$=0$^+$ ground state of a drop of 8 neutrons and the lowest 1/2$^-$ and 3/2$^-$ states of 7-neutron drops, all in an external well, are computed accurately with variational and Green's function Monte Carlo methods for a Hamiltonian containing

Topical analgesia for acute otitis media [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Acute otitis media (AOM) is a spontaneously remitting disease for which pain is the most distressing symptom. Antibiotics are now known to have less benefit than previously assumed.OBJECTIVES: To assess the effectiveness of topical analgesia ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Shape transformations in rotating ferrofluid drops [PDF]
Floating drops of magnetic fluid can be brought into rotation by applying a rotating magnetic field. We report theoretical and experimental results on the transition from a spheroid equilibrium shape to non-axissymmetrical three-axes ellipsoids at ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

We simulate the diffusion-driven dissolution or growth of a single-component liquid drop embedded in a continuous phase of a binary liquid. Our theoretical approach follows a diffuse-interface model of partially miscible ternary liquid mixtures that ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Drops and Spray Containing Propolis—An EPR Examination
The influence of heating at a temperature of 50 °C and UV-irradiation of propolis drops and spray on their free radical scavenging activity was determined.

Breath figures under electrowetting: electrically controlled evolution of drop condensation patterns [PDF]
We show that electrowetting (EW) with structured electrodes significantly modifies the distribution of drops condensing onto flat hydrophobic surfaces by aligning the drops and by enhancing coalescence.
