Protein and enzyme variation in Drosophila

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1971
Abstract 1. 1. The isoenzyme patterns of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and the protein banding patterns of Drosophila affinis, D. hydei, D. melanogaster, D. simulans Amherst, D. simulans Georgetown, and D.

Protein turnover in adult Drosophila

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1970
Abstract Adult male Drosophila subobscura were pulse-labelled with 3H leucine, and radioactivity incorporated into protein measured for 20 days after the pulse label, by extracting total protein and by autoradiography. The halflife of these proteins which turn over in the adult is approximately 10 days.

Adaptive protein evolution in Drosophila

Nature, 2002
For over 30 years a central question in molecular evolution has been whether natural selection plays a substantial role in evolution at the DNA sequence level. Evidence has accumulated over the last decade that adaptive evolution does occur at the protein level, but it has remained unclear how prevalent adaptive evolution is.

Synthesis of drosophila X virus proteins in cultured Drosophila cells

Virology, 1984
The genome of Drosophila X virus (DXV) is made up of two segments of dsRNA with molecular weights of 2.3 X 10(6) (A) and 2.2 X 10(6) (B). Agarose gel electrophoresis of RNA fragments produced by S1 nuclease digestion of partially denatured, purified segment A and B indicated that the two genome segments have different nucleotide sequences.

Drosophila RNA Binding Proteins

2006
RNA binding proteins are fundamental mediators of gene expression. The use of the model organism Drosophila has helped to elucidate both tissue-specific and ubiquitous functions of RNA binding proteins. These proteins mediate all aspects of the mRNA lifespan including splicing, nucleocytoplasmic transport, localization, stability, translation, and ...

Functions of piRNAs and the Piwi protein in Drosophila

Russian Journal of Genetics, 2015
Short (25-35 nucleotides) regulatory piPHK, along with RNA-binding proteins of the Piwi family, constitute an evolutionarily conserved system that functions mainly in eukaryotic gonads. The system can be regarded as a variant of the mechanism of RNA interference, which is based on the recognition of target RNA as a result of complementary interactions ...
