Century‐long trends in plant diversity of temperate mountain vegetation are modulated along elevation gradient

Resurvey studies in mountain forests of the Tatra Mountains (Central Europe) show that plant diversity has increased over the past century, particularly at lower elevations. These shifts were associated more with increased nitrogen deposition and reduced grazing pressure than with direct climate warming.

A pan‐European citizen science study shows population size, climate and land use are related to biased morph ratios in the heterostylous plant Primula veris

A large‐scale citizen science study involving thousands of cowslip (Primula veris) observations from all over Europe revealed an unexpected prevalence of S‐morphs over L‐morphs, which was influenced by climatic as well as land use factors. Furthermore, general morph ratios were often unbalanced with the strongest shifts occurring in smaller populations.

The hidden half of ontogeny and seasonal dynamics in perennial herbs

In this 3‐year study with 10 pairs of related perennial herbs, the authors found that the ontogeny of aboveground and belowground parts differ. Belowground ontogeny is partly driven by plant phenological strategy, and there are differences in ontogeny between EPI‐ and HYPO‐ rhizomes.
