RNA sequencing analysis reveals quiescent microglia isolation methods from postnatal mouse brains and limitations of BV2 cells

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2018
Background Microglia play key roles in neuron–glia interaction, neuroinflammation, neural repair, and neurotoxicity. Currently, various microglial in vitro models including primary microglia derived from distinct isolation methods and immortalized ...

Drug Policy and the HIV Pandemic in Russia and Ukraine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Over the past three years Russia and Ukraine have experienced one of the fastest growing HIV pandemics in Europe. In contrast to other parts of the world, the main driver behind the rate of infection is injecting drug use. Recent government policies have

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is stimulated by red light irradiation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Light at different wavelengths has distinct effects on keratinocyte viability and metabolism. UVA light abrogates metabolic fluxes. Blue and green light have no effect on metabolic fluxes, while red light enhanced oxidative phosphorylation by promoting fatty acid oxidation. Keratinocytes are the primary constituents of sunlight‐exposed epidermis.

How Can Network-Pharmacology Contribute to Antiepileptic Drug Development? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Network-pharmacology is a field of pharmacology emerging from the observation that most clinical drugs have multiple targets, contrasting with the previously dominant magic bullet paradigm which proposed the search of exquisitely selective drugs. What is

Harnessing autophagy to overcome mitogen‐activated protein kinase kinase inhibitor‐induced resistance in metastatic melanoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background Patients with malignant melanoma often relapse after treatment with BRAF and/or mitogen‐activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) inhibitors (MEKi) owing to development of drug resistance.

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Quantitative performance assessment of Ultivue multiplex panels in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded human and murine tumor specimens

open access: yesScientific Reports
We present a rigorous validation strategy to evaluate the performance of Ultivue multiplex immunofluorescence panels. We have quantified the accuracy and precision of four different multiplex panels (three human and one mouse) in tumor specimens with ...

Development of a modified lymphocyte transformation test for diagnosing drug-induced liver injury associated with an adaptive immune response

open access: yesJournal of Immunotoxicology, 2017
Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a growing problem. Diagnostic methods to differentiate DILI caused by an adaptive immune response from liver injury of other causes or to identify the responsible drug in patients receiving multiple drugs, herbals and ...
