This study addressed how a senior research thesis is perceived by undergraduate students. It assessed students' perception of research skills, epistemological beliefs, and career goals in Biochemistry (science) and BDC (science‐business) students. Completing a thesis improved confidence in research skills, resilience, scientific identity, closed gender‐

Light activation of the photoswitchable cannabinoid ligand azo‐HU308 triggers Ca2+ influx in pancreatic β‐cells through TRPC channels, independent of CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This reveals a non‐GPCR pathway for cannabinoid modulation of β‐cell Ca2+ dynamics and establishes azo‐HU308 as an optical tool to study cannabinoid signaling through TRP ...

AbstractMitosis is the key event of the cell cycle during which the sister chromatids are segregated onto two daughter cells. It is well established that abrogation of the normal mitotic progression is a highly efficient concept for anti‐cancer treatment.

The global set of relationships between protein targets of all drugs and all disease-gene products in the human protein-protein interaction or 'interactome' network remains uncharacterized. We built a bipartite graph composed of US Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs and proteins linked by drug-target binary associations.

Despite the availability of the BCG vaccine and chemotherapy, tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading infectious killer worldwide. The recent rise of TB and especially the alarming increase of drug-resistant TB call for urgent need to develop new anti-TB drugs.

Specific targeting of drugs to the colon is recognized to have several therapeutic advantages. Drugs which are destroyed by the stomach acid and/or metabolized by pancreatic enzymes are slightly affected in the colon, and sustained colonic release of drugs can be useful in the treatment of nocturnal asthma, angina and arthritis.

AbstractFar from the traditional view of selective drug‐target interactions, the recent accumulation of large amounts of interaction data for small‐molecule drugs and protein targets requires innovative visualisation and analysis tools that are able to deal with what has become a truly complex system.

Cancer chemotherapy drugs are neither specific, i.e., they do not act exclusively on the metabolic pathways of cancer cells, nor are they targeted solely toward cancer cells. However, recent research has begun to address, in part, the latter issue. Improved delivery of chemotherapeutic agents to tumor tissue in man appears to be an achievable goal in ...

Expert Opinion on Drug Discovery, 2009
One of the primary pillars of drug discovery is the drug target, its relationship to both the drugs designed against it and the biological processes in which it is involved. Here we review the informatics approaches required to build a complete catalogue of known drug targets.Using Pfizer's internal target database as a narrative, we review the steps ...

Recent work suggests that specific association of drugs with their targets could be achieved by means of a versatile carrier capable of transporting drug molecules from the site of application directly to the site of action.
