A Fractional-Order Creep-Damage Model for Carbonaceous Shale Describing Coupled Damage Caused by Rainfall and Blasting

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
In order to better understand the shear creep behavior of weak interlayers (carbonaceous shale) under the coupling effect of the rainfall dry–wet cycle and blasting vibration, as well as quantitatively characterize the coupled damage of the rainfall dry ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Effect of Drying - Wetting Cycles on Triaxial Compression Mechanical Properties of Sandstone

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Science and Technology Review, 2016
To investigate the geological hazards caused by the action of drying-wetting cycle on rocks, we conducted a conventional triaxial compression test on sandstone under a high number of repeated drying-wetting cycles. By using the TAW-2000D microcomputer-controlled electro-hydraulic servo triaxial rock testing machine, this study investigated the ...

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

Development characteristics and quantitative analysis of cracks in root-soil complex during different growth periods under dry-wet cycles

open access: yesBiogeotechnics
Repeated wet swelling and dry shrinkage of soil leads to the gradual occurrence of cracks and the formation of a complex fracture network. In order to study the development characteristics and quantitative analysis of cracks in root-soil complex in ...

Influence of hydraulic-mechanical coupling and dry-wet cycle effect on surficial layer stability of residual soil slopes

open access: yesZhongguo dizhi zaihai yu fangzhi xuebao, 2022
During rainfall infiltration, soil suction decreased and volume changed significantly. Since the natural shallow soil was under the influence of seasonal climate changes for a long time, numerical analysis of the influence of hydraulic-mechanical ...

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...
