Dry sliding wear of Cu–Be alloys
Wear, 2005Abstract The tribological behaviour of two Cu–Be alloys was investigated under dry sliding conditions against an AISI M2 steel counterface. The first alloy, Cu–Be1, was characterized by a hardness of 390 HV and a thermal conductivity of 106 W/mK, whereas the second one, Cu–Be2, had a lower hardness, 270 HV, and a higher thermal conductivity, 208 W/mK.

The bearing and seals operate often in the conditions of sliding wear. The present paper is an overview, concerning various aspects of cermet-metal dry sliding. The sliding wear is more of a surface phenomenon than abrasion, making it difficult to predict the wear from bulk properties.

Finite‐element modeling of dry sliding wear in metals
Engineering Computations, 2001This paper is concerned with the calibration and validation of a finite‐element model of dry sliding wear in metals. The model is formulated within a Lagrangian framework capable of accounting for large plastic deformations and history‐dependent material behavior.

Dry sliding wear behaviour of bamboo
Wear, 1998Abstract Dry sliding wear behaviour of bamboo ( Phyllostachys pubescens ) against a grey iron (HT200) was examined on a block-on-ring machine. The wear volume of bamboo was a function of the normal load, the sliding velocity and the relative orientation of bamboo fibres with respect to the rubbing surface.

The role of triboparticulates in dry sliding wear
Tribology International, 1998In this paper, wear processes and mechanisms for wear transitions with sliding time and temperature during sliding of a nickel-based alloy, N80A, in oxygen at temperatures to 250°C are discussed. Transitions in wear from high rates to low rates with sliding time were always observed at all the temperatures investigated.

Dry sliding wear of nanostructured Fe30Ni20Mn20Al30
Intermetallics, 2012Abstract The wear of both as-cast and annealed nanostructured Fe30Ni20Mn20Al30, which consists of fine alternating B2 (ordered b.c.c.) and L21 (further ordering B2) phases, was studied using pin-on-disk tribotests in three different test environments, oxygen, air and argon. The counterface in all tests was yttria-stabilized zirconia.

Modelling sliding wear: From dry to wet environments
Wear, 2006Corrosive species in various forms exist widely in the environment and can significantly affect wear behaviour of materials, usually accelerating wear. Under conditions where the environments are seemingly non-deleterious in terms of corrosivity, some species from the environment can still affect the tribological behaviour of materials.

Dry sliding wear of eutectic Al–Si
Journal of Materials Science, 2010The wear of as-cast eutectic Al–Si was studied using pin-on-disk tribotests in two different environments, air and dry argon. The counterface in all tests was yttria-stabilized zirconia. It was found that wear of the Al–Si was reduced by about 60% by the removal of oxygen from the test environment. The zirconia counterfaces showed measurable wear after

The mechanisms of wear of cast iron in dry sliding
Wear, 1968Abstract The present study has been made on the mechanisms of wear of cast iron in dry sliding. The results of the study show that under mild wear conditions plastic deformation occurs in the sliding surface. Under heavy wear conditions destruction of the sliding surface by thermal shock takes place.

On wear mechanisms of sialon and metal in dry sliding
Wear, 1990Abstract To investigate the wear mechanisms of pressless sintered SIALON sliding against metal without lubricant for its potential use in cutting tools and drawing dies, some experiments were carried out on a ring-and-block test machine. The results indicate that the weight of the wear debris increases with the load and decreases with the sliding ...
