Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Obviation Across Clause Boundaries in Kutenai

open access: yesKansas Working Papers in Linguistics, 1997
Kutenai has an obviation system reminiscent of the system found in Algonquian languages in which at most one third person nominal in a clause is proximate and others are obviative.

A Novel Energy Efficient Adsorption Drying with Zeolite For Food Quality Product: A Case Study in Paddy and Corn Drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Nowadays, the importance of powdered food products as for example soups, sauces, dried yeasts, and herbal medicine is increasing for consumer convenience. Mostly, these products have been produced with drying process either, direct sunlight, conventional,

Modelling and PID Control of a Rotary Dryer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper describes the modelling and the PID control of a drying process. The plant uses a co-current rotary dryer to evaporate moisture of a waste product generated by olive-oil mills, called alpeorujo or two phase cake.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Analysis of Dried Onions in a Hybrid Solar Dryer, Freeze Dryer and Tunnel Dryer

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
Onion (Allium cepa L.) belongs to the lily family, such as garlic and leeks. Dehydrated onion can be presented in powder, chunks, granules or slices. Its applications consider manufacturing of condiments, dehydrated or added to rehydrated meals. We determined the drying curves of onion slices cut into 10 and 5 mm thickness, using a hybrid solar dryer ...

Experimental performance of direct forced convection household solar dryer for drying banana

open access: yes, 2020
In this study, the performance of direct forced convection household solar dryer for drying banana is presented. A solar dryer with a polycarbonate plates cover on a flat plate collector was constructed and it was designed in the parabolic shape.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Slow shock interactions in the heliosphere using an adaptive grid MHD model [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2005
A one-dimensional (1-D), time-dependent, adaptive-grid MHD model with solar wind structure has been used in the past to study the interaction of shocks. In the present study, we wish to study some fundamental processes that may be associated with slow
