Dry-heat destruction of lipopolysaccharide: dry-heat destruction kinetics [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1978
Dry-heat destruction kinetics of lipopolysaccharides from Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, and Salmonella typhosa at 170 to 250 degrees C are described. The destruction rate seems to follow the second order and can be linearized by the equation, log y = a + b . -10cx. Because c is the slope, 1/c = D3.

Comparison on Modelling of Drying Kinetics of Granular Polymers PA6 by Diffusion Models and Normalization Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this work, the drying behaviour of single granular PA6, hanging in the flow direction of hot air in a drying chamber, was investigated. In the experiments, the air was passed through the chamber at contant very low velocity in the drying chamber of ...

The infrared radiation and vacuum assisted drying kinetics of flue-cured tobacco leaf and its drying quality analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
[EN] Dehydration is widely involved in tobacco processing such as tobacco leaf curing, tobacco trip redrying and cut tobacco drying, which plays a key role due to its effect on the physical and chemical quality of tobacco.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The Process Transport of Drying Corn With Mixed-Adsorption Drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Mixed-adsorption drying with adsorptive material such as zeolite is an option to enhance the performance of drying corn. In this case, zeolite and seeds are mixed and fluidized by warm air as drying medium.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modeling and simulation of drying operation in PVC powder production line: a pneumatic dryer model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A one-dimensional steady-state model is developed to simulate drying of PVC powder in a pneumatic dryer. In this model, a two-phase continuum model was used to describe the steady-state flow of a dilute dispersed phase (wet PVC powder) and a continuous ...

Non-isothermal modeling of drying kinetics of ceramic tiles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The present study has been undertaken to optimize the drying stage in ceramic tile manufacture. Tests were conducted to determine drying kinetics, establishing how air temperature and relative humidity influenced this process.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Drying kinetics and equilibrium moisture content of MDF fibres.

open access: yes, 2009
An experimental device was constructed to study the drying kinetics of wood fibers under controlled conditions. The device consisted of a drying chamber in which a net basket filled with the fiber material was connected to a load cell.
