Optimization Method for the Evaluation of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer Effective Coefficients and Energy Sources in Drying Processes

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
A new optimization method for the assessment of the coefficients existing in a model of drying kinetics is developed and presented in this article. This method consists of matching the drying kinetics resulting from the mathematical model with the drying

Physical and mechanical properties of raspberries subjected to osmotic dehydration and further dehydration by air- and freeze-drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of the application of dry and wet sucrose infusions, as pretreatments previous to air- and freeze-drying, on mechanical and physical properties of raspberries: water sorption, glass transition temperature ...

Kinetics of the Vacuum Drying of Cheeses

open access: yesFoods and Raw Materials, 2014
Cheeses are analyzed as vacuum drying objects. An experimental vacuum drier and its elements are schematized. The operating principle of the experimental setup is described. Moisture is demonstrated to be among the most important components of cheese. The physicochemical composition of cheeses is considered.

Microwave Drying Kinetics of Chromium-Rich Electroplating Sludge

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Chromium-rich electroplating sludge (CRES) is a hazardous solid waste with a high content of moisture requiring efficient drying before subsequent treatment. In this study, the microwave drying kinetics of CRES were examined. The results showed that CRES

Adaptive Speckle Imaging Interferometry: a new technique for the analysis of microstructure dynamics, drying processes and coating formation

open access: yes, 2007
We describe an extension of multi-speckle diffusing wave spectroscopy adapted to follow the non-stationary microscopic dynamics in drying films and coatings in a very reactive way and with a high dynamic range.

Dry-heat destruction of lipopolysaccharide: dry-heat destruction kinetics [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1978
Dry-heat destruction kinetics of lipopolysaccharides from Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, and Salmonella typhosa at 170 to 250 degrees C are described. The destruction rate seems to follow the second order and can be linearized by the equation, log y = a + b . -10cx. Because c is the slope, 1/c = D3.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Modeling the Drying Kinetics of Green Bell Pepper in a Heat Pump Assisted Fluidized Bed Dryer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this research, green bell pepper was dried in a pilot plant fluidized bed dryer equipped with a heat pump humidifier using three temperatures of 40, 50 and 60C and two airflow velocities of 2 and 3m/s in constant air moisture.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Drying behavior of organic apples and carrots by using k-means unsupervised learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Drying prevents food spoilage and decay through moisture removal due to simultaneous heat and mass transfer from food, which may be stored for long period with minimal deterioration occurring.
