The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The prediction of drying time of expanded polystyrene blocks : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology in Production Technology at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A study of methods to predict the drying time of expanded polystyrene was made with the aim of optimizing the drying conditions of the drying kiln at Lanwood Industries.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The Effect of Weather on Air-Drying of Messassa Wood

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente
This study intended to assess the effect of weather on the air-drying process of messassa wood (Brachystegia spiciformis Benth) in two areas of Mozambique (Machipanda and Beira city). First, the logs were sawn into 27 mm thick boards. Every five days the

Development and performance evaluation of an effective dryer for poundo yam flour processing plant

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2017
The process of making pounded yam, from yam, Dioscorea spp., which is mostly consumed by people of sub-Sahara region as source of carbohydrate is energy consuming, therefore, the pounded yam flour, commonly called poundo yam, through which pounded yam is

Determination of the content of free and attached moisture in spent grain

open access: yesНовые технологии, 2020
Experimental data on the kinetics of drying of raw brewer’s grains from the Maykop brewery for two temperature regimes of 60°C and 55°C are presented. The dry matter content is 12,7%. The drying agent speed is 4,5 m/s.

Desiccation of a clay film: Cracking versus peeling

open access: yes, 2008
Cracking and peeling of a layer of clay on desiccation has been simulated using a spring model. A vertical section through the layer with finite thickness is represented by a rectangular array of nodes connected by linear springs on a square lattice. The

Development of model based sensors for the supervision of a solar dryer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Solar dryers are increasingly used in developing countries as an alternative to drying in open air, however the inherent variability of the drying conditions during day and along year drive the need for achieving low cost sensors that would enable to ...

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...
