Cigarette filter material and polypropylene fibres in concrete to control drying shrinkage [PDF]
Due to a reduction in demand for cigarette filter material (North East UK), significant quantities have arisen that have little commercial value. The filter manufacturers have been looking for another outlet for their product and polypropylene fibre ...

Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Shrinkage properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete- A review
Cracks induced by concrete shrinkage may allow corrosive agents to penetrate steel reinforced concrete and deteriorate the reinforcement. Adding randomly distributed steel fiber to concrete can reduce shrinkage and prevent the initiation of cracking ...

Investigation of Early Age Tensile Stresses, Shrinkage Strains in Pavements and Standard Drying Shrinkage Tests [PDF]
Crack prevention is often a critical parameter in the design and construction of ground and suspended concrete slabs. Often when the degree of restraint is high, uncontrolled cracking can influence the serviceability of a structure.

Single droplet experimentation on spray drying:evaporation of sessile droplets deposited on a flat surface [PDF]
: Individually dispensed droplets were dried on a flat surface to mimic the drying of single droplets during spray drying. A robust dispensing process is presented that generates small droplets (dp>150 µm).

Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...
