Microwave-assisted freeze drying of pineapple: Kinetic, product quality, and energy consumption

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2023
Among the advanced drying methods, vacuum freeze-drying (VFD) preserves the quality of food to the greatest extent, but its biggest disadvantage is its high energy consumption. The microwave-assisted freeze drying is expected to greatly reduce the energy

The study of the drying kinetic and the cutting performance in dried betel nut production machine [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Betel nut kernel is an important raw material in the leather and dye industries. The quality control after harvest is necessary, especially, the excess moisture content may cause the spoilage.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Neodymium recovery by chitosan/iron(III) hydroxide [ChiFer(III)] sorbent material: Batch and column systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A low cost composite material was synthesized for neodymium recovery from dilute aqueous solutions. The in-situ production of the composite containing chitosan and iron(III) hydroxide (ChiFer(III)) was improved and the results were compared with raw ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Thermal coal drying with the high volatile matter output [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010

INFLUENCE OF MOISTURE DIFFUSION RATE OF BOUND WATER UPON THE DRYING TIME OF STEAMED AND UNSTEAMED BEECH WOOD [PDF]

open access: yesPro Ligno, 2015
The paper aims at establishing the drying time of beech wood below fiber saturation point, by taking into consideration the influence of thickness, drying temperature, pre-treatment by steaming and wood type (white wood compared to red heart). In order

Dry snow slab shear fracture speeds [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2007
Dry snow slab avalanches release by propagating shear fractures within thin weak layers underneath thicker, stronger planar slabs. In this paper, measured shear fracture speeds from small scale snow slabs are compared with theoretical estimates compatible with dynamic fracture mechanics.
