Volatilization of Na2O and Its Impact on the Processing of Solid Electrolytes

The volatilization of oxides from ceramics during sintering can have a detrimental impact on their physical properties. As shown in the figure, the release of Na2O from Na3.4Zr2Si2.4P0.6O12 leads to the formation of a ZrO2 surface layer that blocks ionic conductivity.
