Bacterial porphyrins in healthy skin: Microbiota components impact melanogenesis and age‐related processes leading to Porphyr'ageing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 48, Issue 1, Page 186-199, February 2026.
Porphyrins, previously linked only to acne inflammation, are now implicated in skin ageing. Their presence correlates with increased melanin, inflammation, and oxidative stress, contributing to premature ageing signs. This study introduces the concept of “Porphyr'ageing,” highlighting the detrimental effects of bacterial metabolites on skin health and ...

Design, Synthesis, and Structural Evolution of Pseudo‐Natural Product IDO1 Inhibitors and Degraders

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 3, 16 January 2026.
The combination of bicyclic monoterpene‐ and pyrrolidine‐alkaloid fragments yields novel pseudo‐natural products. Biological characterization revealed that these iDegs are inhibitors and degraders of indoleamine‐2,3‐dioxygenase. Abstract Terpenoid alkaloids are derived from the fusion of structurally diverse terpenoid‐ and alkaloid moieties.

How natural are the sediments on our beaches? Characterising urban anthropogenic mixed beaches in Scotland

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 2, Page 519-539, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Mixed beaches containing anthropogenic geomaterials such as bricks, concrete, glass, ceramics, tarmac and slag are globally understudied. These materials enter natural beach systems through erosion or dumping, and rising sea levels and increased storminess are expected to intensify coastal erosion, reworking and re‐exposing previously dumped ...

A Multi‐Scale Approach to Assessing Positioning Accuracy in High‐Density Urban Environments of Hong Kong

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 30, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examined GPS positioning accuracy in high‐density urban environments using Hong Kong as a representative case study. Through field measurements along 32 testing routes using three GPS devices, we evaluated GPS performance across diverse urban morphologies to assess associations between complex urban characteristics and positioning ...
