Lactate secretion by monocytes can be used to classify healthy elderly individuals with reduced immune fitness exemplified by hypermetabolic and hyperinflammatory responses. This classification may reflect increased susceptibility to cardiometabolic complications given its link with higher circulating LDL‐c and VEGF levels.
