The Applicability of Rhythm-Motor Tasks to a New Dual Task Paradigm for Older Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2017
Given the interplay between cognitive and motor functions during walking, cognitive demands required during gait have been investigated with regard to dual task performance. Along with the needs to understand how the type of concurrent task while walking

Effects of different dual task training on dual task walking and responding brain activation in older adults with mild cognitive impairment

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The concurrent additional tasking impacts the walking performance, and such impact is even greater in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) than in healthy elders.

Inhibitory control in prospective memory: An event related potential comparison of task-switch and dual task processing

open access: yes, 2021
This study cross-validates reported changes in behavioural and event-related potential (ERP) correlates of prospective memory (PM) inhibitory control performance applying different PM response selection demands (Bisiacchi et al., 2009). Participants were

Dual-Task vs. Single-Task Gait Training to Improve Spatiotemporal Gait Parameters in People with Parkinson’s Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesBrain Sciences
Background: People with Parkinson’s disease (pwPD) present alterations of spatiotemporal gait parameters that impact walking ability. While preliminary studies suggested that dual-task gait training improves spatiotemporal gait parameters, it remains ...

Impact of two different dual tasks on obstacle crossing in elderly

open access: yesFisioterapia e Pesquisa, 2015
The performance of a dual task increases risk of falling during walking in the elderly. Such impact of a dual task may depend on its complexity regarding information processing.

Digitizing a Therapeutic: Development of an Augmented Reality Dual-Task Training Platform for Parkinson’s Disease

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Augmented reality (AR) may be a useful tool for the delivery of dual-task training. This manuscript details the development of the Dual-task Augmented Reality Treatment (DART) platform for individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and reports initial ...

Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Neuroimaging, Behavioral, and Gait Correlates of Fall Profile in Older Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2021
Prior research has suggested that measurements of brain functioning and performance on dual tasks (tasks which require simultaneous performance) are promising candidate predictors of fall risk among older adults.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Building a Framework for a Dual Task Taxonomy

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2015
The study of dual task interference has gained increasing attention in the literature for the past 35 years, with six MEDLINE citations in 1979 growing to 351 citations indexed in 2014 and a peak of 454 cited papers in 2013. Increasingly, researchers are examining dual task cost in individuals with pathology, including those with neurodegenerative ...
