The role of executive attention in healthy older adults' concurrent walking and counting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Completing activities of daily life relies on using both cognitive and physical resources efficiently, but these are affected by age. This may be due either to an age-related reduction in the resources we have available for carrying out tasks or to a ...

Is virtual reality beneficial for dual-task gait training in patients with Parkinson's disease? A systematic review

open access: yesDementia & Neuropsychologia, 2019
This systematic review examined the evidence about the effects of virtual reality (VR) on dual-task gait training in Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: this study (PROSPERO registration CRD42019114736) aimed to answer the question: “Is VR beneficial for

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Dual-to-single-task-ratio in reaction times to peripheral stimuli in the dual Tracking Task: score at T-pre (DSR-all pre) vs. difference score (DSR-all diff = T-pre—T-post: positive value means improvement).

Reduced pattern training based on task decomposition using pattern distributor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Task Decomposition with Pattern Distributor (PD) is a new task decomposition method for multilayered feedforward neural networks. Pattern distributor network is proposed that implements this new task decomposition method.

The Effect of 2 Types of Dual-Task Training on the Balance of Older Adults: Allocated Attention Ability

open access: yesSālmand, 2016
Objectives: The inability to allocate attention to balance when performing concurrent tasks may cause the older adults to fall. Therefore, thisstudy aimed to investigate the effect of 2 types of dual-task training on the balance of older adults.

Effectiveness and cost of integrated cognitive and balance training for balance and falls in cerebellar ataxia: a blinded two-arm parallel group RCT

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
BackgroundIn patients with cerebellar ataxia (CA), dual-tasking deteriorates the performance of one or both tasks.ObjectiveEvaluate the effects of 4 weeks of cognitive-coupled intensive balance training (CIBT) on dual-task cost, dynamic balance, disease ...

Comparative assessment of crystallographic and cryo‐EM models in the Protein Data Bank

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Raw data obtained by X‐ray crystallography or cryo‐EM result in experimental maps, ultimately fitted by atomic models. Although the physical principles are different, the final results can be viewed, compared, and evaluated in the same way. With cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) on track to surpass X‐ray crystallography as the preferred method ...

A minimal cellulosome‐like system in Cellulosilyticum lentocellum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cellulose‐degrading bacteria typically use cellulosomes, large multi‐enzyme complexes on a scaffold protein. In Cellulosilyticum lentocellum, we characterise a far smaller arrangement, a single scaffold bound to one cellulase through a single cohesin‐dockerin interaction.

The effects of different types of dual-task gait training on lower-limb coordination during dual-task gait in patients with stroke: a single-blind randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation
Background Declined lower-limb coordination is one of the main factors to the increased risk of falls in patients with stroke. Dual-task gait training has been shown to be effective in improving lower-limb coordination during single-task walking. However,
