Dual Antiplatelet Therapy in Acute Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesCurrent Atherosclerosis Reports, 2015
Stroke recurrence is common in the early period after a cerebral ischemic event. Treatment with an antiplatelet agent is recommended to reduce recurrent stroke and death in patients with a non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack. Compared to monotherapy, dual antiplatelet therapy has more robust inhibition of platelet activation

Single or dual antiplatelet therapy after PCI

open access: yesNature Reviews Cardiology, 2017
The optimal duration and type of antiplatelet therapy after implantation of a drug-eluting stent (DES) remains uncertain. At the time of the first-in-man implantation of the sirolimus DES in 1999, the protocol-defined dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) duration was only 2 months.

Dual Antiplatelet Therapy Duration: Reconciling the Inconsistencies [PDF]

open access: yesDrugs, 2017
Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) prevents recurrent ischemic events after an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) as well as stent thrombosis (ST) in patients with prior stent implantation. Nevertheless, these benefits are counterbalanced by a significant bleeding hazard, which is directly related to the treatment duration.

Should duration of dual antiplatelet therapy depend on the type and/or potency of implanted stent? A pre-specified analysis from the PROlonging Dual antiplatelet treatment after Grading stent-induced Intimal hyperplasia studY (PRODIGY)

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2013
The purpose of this pre-specified analysis of the PROlonging Dual antiplatelet treatment after Grading stent-induced Intimal hyperplasia studY (PRODIGY) was to assess device-specific outcomes relative to different duration of dual antiplatelet therapy ...

Exodontia in dual antiplatelet therapy: the evidence

British Dental Journal, 2016
Haemostasis is crucial for the success of oral surgical treatment as bleeding problems can cause complications both pre- and post-operatively. Patients on antiplatelet drugs present a challenge due to their increased risk of bleeding. To identify a protocol for the management of oral surgery patients on dual antiplatelet therapy (aspirin and clopidogrel)

Dual antiplatelet therapy in the ‘real world’

Heart, 2018
Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with aspirin and an oral P2Y12 inhibitor is a successful strategy for preventing recurrent ischaemic events following acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Clopidogrel was previously the P2Y12 inhibitor of choice but interpatient heterogeneity in levels of achieved platelet inhibition and delayed onset of action limit its ...
