Impact of dual sensory impairment on cognition in older Chinese adults: a moderated chain-mediated effect

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
ObjectiveAlthough sensory impairment has been identified as a risk factor for cognitive decline, little is known about the underlying mechanisms that connect dual sensory impairment to cognitive ability.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Dual sensory impairment in special schools in South-Eastern Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 2017
In a cross-sectional study to determine the magnitude of dual sensory impairment (DSI-combined hearing and vision loss) in children in single-disability special education schools, children in schools for the blind and schools for the deaf in four states in South-East Nigeria were examined by an ophthalmologist and otorhinolaryngologist to determine the

Satisfaction With Health Care by Dual Sensory Impairment Status [PDF]

open access: yesInnovation in Aging, 2020
Abstract Sensory impairment is a barrier to patient-provider communication and access to care, which may impact satisfaction with care. Satisfaction with the quality of care received in the past year was assessed in the 2017 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (weighted sample=53,905,182 Medicare beneficiaries).

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
