Inside a duck‐billed dinosaur: Vertebral bone microstructure of Huallasaurus (Hadrosauridae), Upper Cretaceous of Patagonia

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dinosaurs evolved a unique respiratory system with air sacs that contributed to their evolutionary success. Postcranial skeletal pneumaticity (PSP) has been used to infer the presence of air sac systems in some fossil archosaurs. While unambiguous evidence of PSP is well documented in pterosaurs and post‐Carnian saurischians, it remains absent

Understanding the spacing of placodes in the eye: A comparative study across age and species

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The conjunctival placodes of the avian eye form in an intriguing and conserved sequence in a circular annulus around the cornea. These 13–16 placodes develop into papillae that are essential for inducing underlying intramembranous flat bones, known as scleral ossicles, which form an important part of the ocular skeleton.

DUCK [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 27th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine, 2015
Touch screens rapidly and significantly replace physical keyboards on mobile devices. Hence, text entry is now dependent on software (or virtual) keyboards that are widely used by sighted people, but raise accessibility issues for visually impaired users. These users rely on tactile exploration with vocal feedback of the whole screen for entering text,

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Projecting the Longevity of Coastal Foredunes Under Stochastic Meteorological and Oceanographic Forcing

open access: yesEarth's Future
Coastal foredunes serve as a critical buffer between the ocean and beach‐adjacent infrastructure, yet these features are at increasing risk of destruction from future storms and changes in sea level.

Chicken Pulmonary MicroRNAs Targeting the PB2 (Segment 1) of Avian Influenza Virus

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The PB2 segment of H5N1 is essential for replication and host adaptation. We screened 200 miRNAs and identified five (gga‐miR‐17‐3p, gga‐miR‐29a‐5p, gga‐miR‐1718, gga‐miR‐16c‐5p, and gga‐miR‐1744‐5p) using thermodynamic stability of heteroduplex, seed sequence complementarity, conservation, and accessibility, offering insights into host antiviral ...

Evaluation of fall‐seeded cover crops for grassland nesting waterfowl in eastern South Dakota

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView., 2023
Cover crops are experiencing a revival among Midwestern farmers, and we assessed their attractiveness and safety for nesting ducks in South Dakota. Nest success was markedly lower in cover crops than in perennial cover during both years of our study, including 2019 which was a best‐case scenario for cover crops, with extremely wet conditions delaying ...

Comparative anatomical study on infundibulum of Pati and Chara-Chemballi ducks (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus) during laying periods [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2014
Aim: The present investigation was undertaken to establish anatomical norms on gross anatomical, histomorphological and histochemical parameters of infundibulum of Pati and Chara-Chemballi ducks. Materials and Methods: In the present investigation, 12 (
