The dominating role of austenite stability and martensite transformation mechanism on the toughness and ductile-to-brittle-transition temperature of a quenched and partitioned steel

Materials Science & Engineering: A, 2021
The effect of austenite stability and martensite transformation (MT) mechanism on the tensile and impact properties has been investigated for Fe-0.3C-2.7Mn-1.7Si (wt.%) quenched and partitioned (Q&P) steel. The stability of metastable retained austenite (

Numerical investigation of the brittle-to-ductile transition temperature of rolled high-purity tungsten [PDF]

open access: yesMechanics of Materials, 2020
\u3cp\u3eWith increasing temperature, high-purity tungsten typically shows a sharp transition from fully brittle behaviour to a significantly more ductile response.

Ductile–brittle transition temperature of polylactic acid-based biocomposite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Almost all materials exhibit sensitivity of mechanical properties to temperature. Polylactic acid (PLA), an amorphous polymeric material, also exhibits this type of behavior. Because of its limited application in structural purpose, very few journals and

Modeling Temperature-Driven Ductile-to-Brittle Transition Fracture in Ferritic Steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The most catastrophic brittle failure in ferritic steels is observed as their tendency of losing almost all of their toughness when the temperature drops below their ductile-to-brittle transition (DBT) temperature.

The ductile-to-brittle transition and the temperature and temporal stability of amorphous alloys

Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics, 2015
The ductile-to-brittle transition of amorphous iron-based alloys is considered. A criterion of mechanical degradation (embrittlement) in the range of climatic temperatures is developed on its basis. Time intervals of the stability of some multicomponent iron-based quenched melt amorphous alloys of the metal–metalloid type are estimated.

The influence of competing fracture mode on the ductile to brittle transition temperature

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1993
Abstract The influence of competition between the fracture modes in the ductile to brittle transition region of structural steels on their measured fracture probability density functions (PDF) is considered and analysed. Such competition is shown to shift and distort measured PDFs from true PDFs.

The temperature‐dependent ballistic performance and the ductile‐to‐brittle transition in polymer networks

Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2019
ABSTRACTThe temperature dependence of the ballistic impact performance of a series of transparent polymer networks is evaluated. A systematic series of homogeneous epoxy/propylene‐oxide‐based thermosets, a nanoscale phase‐separated epoxy/dual amine thermoset, and two homogeneous, completely aliphatic materials synthesized via ring‐opening metathesis ...

Effect of specimen geometry on impact strength and ductile-to-brittle transition temperature

Soviet Materials Science, 1972
Data on the effect of specimen geometry on the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of low-alloy steel are reported. The influence of the cross-sectional area, specimen width and thickness, notch angle, and root radius were studied.
