Micromechanical modeling of ductile cast iron incorporating damage. Part I: Ferritic ductile cast iron

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 2005
The market for ductile cast iron as a substitute material increases every year. The material structural performance is strongly dependent on the microstructure. Micromechanics can help in understanding the role played by the microstructure constituents as well as the effects associated to the shape of the spheroids, their density, surface roughness ...

Spheroidal Graphite Cast Irons (or Ductile Cast Iron)

2018
The main disadvantage of grey cast irons, regarding the mechanical properties, is the notch effect caused by the flakes of graphite. A model proposed to describe the grey cast irons is a steel with cavities filled with graphite. If this lamellar graphite is transformed into spheroidal graphite, mechanical properties will improve.

Ductile Aluminium Cast Irons

Cast Metals, 1992
AbstractThe authors demonstrate how they developed spheroidisation and inoculation treatments for ductile Al cast iron and subsequently examined the microstructure and tensile properties in the as-cast and normalised conditions at 2.2 and 3.2% of Al.
