Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Physics-Based Constitutive Modelling of Ductile Damage and Fracture: A Microstructure-Sensitive Perspective

open access: yesMetals
Physics-based constitutive modelling remains a cornerstone for predicting ductile damage and fracture in metallic materials, particularly where microstructural mechanisms govern macroscopic response.

Extreme cavity expansion in soft solids: damage without fracture

open access: yes, 2019
Cavitation is a common damage mechanism in soft solids. Here, we study this using a phase-separation technique in stretched, elastic solids to controllably nucleate and grow small cavities by several orders of magnitude.

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.

Modeling asymmetric fracture mechanics of Mg alloy wire in drawing process

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
In this study, a numerical analysis was conducted on the ductile fracture of a 2-mm diameter Mg-1Zn-0.5Mn-0.5Sr-0.1Ca alloy wire during drawing. The hexagonally close-packed crystal structure of Mg alloys causes asymmetric fracture behavior, especially ...

Study on the Evolution of Damage Degradation at Different Temperatures and Strain Rates for Ti-6Al-4V Alloy

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2019
It is a significant issue to deeply understand the nature relationships between damage degradation and deforming parameters, and then identify the changes of initial ductile fracture time with processing parameters and further adjusting the forming ...

Bending damages in galvanized ductile cast irons

open access: yesProcedia Structural Integrity, 2018
Abstract Ductile cast irons (DCIs) are characterized by mechanical properties close to low and medium carbon steels. Carbon atoms are mainly localized in graphite nodules, which are dispersed in a metallic matrix. The microstructure of metallic matrix can be ferritic, austenitic, pearlitic, martensitic or their mix, depending on chemical composition ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Exploration of outliers in strength–ductility relationship of dual-phase steels

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods, 2022
To overcome the trade-off relationship between tensile strength and elongation of dual-phase steels, three exploratory techniques were utilized: Bayesian optimization (BO), BoundLess Objective-free eXploration (BLOX), and one-class support vector machine
