Physiological responses of Dunaliella salina and Dunaliella tertiolecta to copper toxicity
Biomolecular Engineering, 2005Species differences in heavy metal tolerance were investigated by comparing the responses of Dunaliella tertiolecta and Dunaliella salina to elevated concentrations of CuCl2. Although both species showed reduced cell number ml(-1) of algal culture, D. salina was more affected by increase in CuCl2. This reflects higher sensitivity of D.

Dunaliella salina Hsp90 is halotolerant
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2015Dunaliella salina is a unicellular green alga with exceptional halotolerance. Although the D. salina cells are capable to proliferate in hypersaline medium, the intracellular salt concentrations are maintained at a low level. Thus the extracellular but not intracellular Dunaliella proteins are expected to be highly halotolerant.

Sterols have been extracted and analysed from Dunaliellatertiolecta and Dunaliella salina, in order to evaluate a potentially novel industrial exploitation of these microalgae as source of phytosterols. The effect of salt concentration on sterols yields has been studied varying the quantities of NaCl into culture medium.

Synchronization of Dunaliella cultures
Archiv fr Mikrobiologie, 1971Dunaliella cells exhibit different temperature optima for photosynthesis and cell division. Using this observation a combined light-dark and highlow temperature treatment is given to synchronize cell suspensions.

Carotenoids are essential natural pigments, and ZISO plays a pivotal role in their biosynthesis. This study compares ZISO enzyme activity in Dunaliella salina and Dunaliella bardawil to evaluate their efficiency in synthesizing 9,9'-di-cis-ζ-carotene. Bacterial strains lacking ZISO (ΔDsZISO, ΔDbZISO) and ZDS (ΔDsZDS, ΔDbZDS) were constructed, and HPLC ...
