Human duodenum responses to vitamin D metabolites of TRPV6 and other genes involved in calcium absorption

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology - Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2009
Calcium absorption by the intestine is necessary for bone mineralization. Much has been learned about this process and the role of vitamin D metabolites in gene transcription from animal studies, but the molecular mechanisms in humans are less well ...

Custom Shape Formation in Continuum Robots Using Compliant Bistable Segments for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article describes the integration of compliant bi‐stability in continuum robots. This integration leads to two variants of compliant bistable mechanism (CBM) integrated continuum robot segments, extending and locking. Results show that when used together, these CBM‐integrated segments allow the continuum robot to form custom shapes.

Intestinal Atresia in PPP1R12A‐Related Urogenital and Brain Malformation Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT PPP1R12A‐related urogenital and brain malformation syndrome (UBMS) is a newly described disorder characterized by congenital anomalies primarily involving the urogenital system and the brain. We describe a preterm female neonate with multiple congenital anomalies, including type IIIb jejunal atresia, incomplete intestinal rotation, imperforate

The influence of trace metal supplementation on the presence of ceftriaxone resistance in Enterobacteriaceae in the gastrointestinal tract of dairy cattle

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
The addition of trace minerals into the diet of lactating cows frequently exceeds national recommendations for industry practices. However, the presence of certain heavy metals, such as zinc and copper, has been shown to exert selection pressure on the ...

Research advancements and evaluation of multifactor‐induced murine models for gastric cancer

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Murine models for gastric cancer. Abstract As one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal malignancies in humans, gastric cancer (GC) is often detected at an advanced stage, resulting in a poor prognosis and ranking it the fifth leading cause of cancer‐related deaths.

Mouse duodenum as a model of inflammation induced by enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli K88

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2016
Introduction: The aim of the experiment was to establish the enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli K88 (ETEC K88)-induced BALB/c mouse duodenum inflammation model. Material and Methods: Mice were administered different concentrations of E. coli K88 (1.0 × 107-

Everolimus‐Coated Laser‐Cut Self‐Expandable Metallic Stent Suppresses Stent‐Induced Tissue Hyperplasia in a Rat Gastric Outlet

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Everolimus‐coated laser‐cut self‐expandable metallic stents suppress stent‐induced tissue hyperplasia in the gastric outlet by reducing inflammation, fibrosis, and smooth muscle proliferation. Herein, we demonstrate the mechanical stability, sustained drug release, and histological benefits in a rat gastric outlet model, suggesting potential for ...
