The dust in M31 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
Abstract We have analysed Herschel observations of M31, using the ppmap procedure. The resolution of ppmap images is sufficient ($\sim 31\, {\rm pc}$ on M31) that we can analyse far-IR dust emission on the scale of giant molecular clouds.

Observations of Saharan dust layer electrification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Electrification of atmospheric dust influences the coagulation, wet removal and fall speeds of dust particles. Alignment of dust particles can also occur in fair weather atmospheric electrical conditions if the particles are charged.

An exploration of dust grain growth within WCd systems using an advected scalar dust model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Dust production is one of the more curious phenomena observed in massive binary systems with interacting winds. The high temperatures, UV photon flux and violent shocks should destroy any dust grains that condense. However, in some extreme cases dust production yields of approximately 30% of the total mass loss rate of the stellar winds have been ...

Dust Masses, PAH Abundances, and Starlight Intensities in the SINGS Galaxy Sample [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Physical dust models are presented for 65 galaxies in SINGS that are strongly detected in the four IRAC bands and three MIPS bands. For each galaxy we estimate (1) the total dust mass, (2) the fraction of the dust mass contributed by PAHs, and (3) the ...

Constraining dust formation in high-redshift young galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Core-collapse supernovae (SNe) are believed to be the first significant source of dust in the Universe. Such SNe are expected to be the main dust producers in young high-redshift Lyman $\alpha$ emitters (LAEs) given their young ages, providing an ...

The physics of wind-blown sand and dust [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The transport of sand and dust by wind is a potent erosional force, creates sand dunes and ripples, and loads the atmosphere with suspended dust aerosols.

High throughput genomic sequencing of bioaerosols in broiler chicken production facilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Chronic inhalation exposure to agricultural dust promotes the development of chronic respiratory diseases among poultry workers. Poultry dust is composed of dander, chicken feed, litter bedding and microbes.

The Slow Flow Model of Dust Efflux in Local Star-Forming Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We develop a dust efflux model of radiation pressure acting on dust grains which successfully reproduces the relation between stellar mass, dust opacity and star formation rate observed in local star-forming galaxies. The dust content of local star-forming galaxies is set by the competition between the physical processes of dust production and dust ...

The Dawn of Dust Astronomy [PDF]

open access: yesSpace Science Reviews (2019) 215:46, 2019
We review the development of dust science from the first ground-based astronomical observations of dust in space to compositional analysis of individual dust particles and their source objects. A multitude of observational techniques is available for the scientific study of space dust: from meteors and interplanetary dust particles collected in the ...
