Physics of Collective Dust-Dust Attraction and Dust Structure Formation
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2002Collective attraction forces between two test dust grain in presence of many other dust grains are related with collective plasma flux. The basic state is formed by the balance of the plasma absorption on grains and plasma ionization. In the limit where the collective interaction dominates (a 2/ λ Di 2 >> Ti/Te ,a being the dust ...

The essential dynamical characteristic of convective vortices, including dust devils, is a highly localized vorticity tube that extends into the vertical. This chapter is concerned with both the generation of vorticity and the subsequent focusing of that vorticity into a tight vortex, and with the environmental conditions that are conducive to the ...

Abstract A review of the literature on observations of dust devils suggests that these whirls form like the rolling-up of a vertical vortex sheet when the stratification is slightly unstable. The linearized equations governing the stability of such flows are formulated.

Formation of Molecules on Dust
1984The contribution to interstellar chemistry from reactions on the surfaces of dust grains is described. Results of new calculations of sticking probability and surface mobility are presented, and the implications for interstellar chemistry are briefly explored.

Formation of molecules and dust
2008The theory of formation of various molecules, both on surfaces of interstellar dust-grains and in gas-phase reactions, is reviewed. Destruction of molecules, the special problems of very dark clouds and the life-history of dust-grains are also reviewed briefly.

Dust grains are a key component of the Universe. They play a crucial role in various astrophysical processes, such as the formation of stars and planets, the catalysis of molecular hydrogen... Several important questions about dust are still under debate. One of them deals with the site of dust production.

Abstract Dust is a ubiquitous and vital component of the interstellar medium. Its formation in the hot winds ejected during the outburst of novae is a well-established phenomenon. However, the mechanisms by which dust is formed and the criteria which determine the efficiency of that process are very poorly understood. Central to these
