Non-crossing dependencies: Least effort, not grammar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The use of null hypotheses (in a statistical sense) is common in hard sciences but not in theoretical linguistics. Here the null hypothesis that the low frequency of syntactic dependency crossings is expected by an arbitrary ordering of words is rejected.

On the p-AlGaN/n-AlGaN/p-AlGaN Current Spreading Layer for AlGaN-based Deep Ultraviolet Light-Emitting Diodes

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2018
In this report, AlGaN-based deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (DUV LEDs) with different p-AlGaN/n-AlGaN/p-AlGaN (PNP-AlGaN) structured current spreading layers have been described and investigated.

Variational theory of elastic manifolds with correlated disorder and localization of interacting quantum particles

open access: yes, 1995
We apply the gaussian variational method (GVM) to study the equilibrium statistical mechanics of the two related systems: (i) classical elastic manifolds, such as flux lattices, in presence of columnar disorder correlated along the $\tau$ direction (ii ...

Photodynamics of potent antioxidants: ferulic and caffeic acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The dynamics of ferulic acid (3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-propenoic acid) and caffeic acid (3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-propenoic acid) in acetonitrile, dioxane and water at pH 2.2 following photoexcitation to the first excited singlet state are ...

High‐Detectivity MOCVD‐Epitaxial h‐BN‐Based Vacuum UV Photodetectors With Pt Nanoparticle‐Engineered Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance Enhancement

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 8, 24 April 2026.
MOCVD‐epitaxial h‐BN integrated with size‐controlled Pt nanoparticles achieves enhanced vacuum ultraviolet photodetection via localized surface plasmon resonance. The 32‐nm Pt NP‐optimized device exhibits 1.02 mA/W responsivity and 2.95 × 1011 Jones detectivity—representing 143% and 117% improvements.

Performance study of UV micro-LEDs with AlGaN quantum dots and transparent tunnel junction

open access: yesNext Nanotechnology
It is well known that the size of deep ultraviolet (DUV) micro LED (μLEDs) decreases, although bandwidth improves, the optical power drops sharply, severely limiting the application of DUV μLEDs in optical communication.
