Nova Explosion of Mass-Accreting White Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 1979
Abstract The evolution of mass-accreting white dwarfs has been computed from the onset of accretion through nova explosion. Two cases have been considered: a carbon-oxygen white dwarf of 1.3 M◉ with the accretion rate of 1.0 × 10−10M◉ yr−1 and a helium white dwarf of 0.4 M◉ with 1.0×10−8M◉ yr−1.

Mozambique's Colonial‐Era Non‐Human Primate Collection at the National Museum of Natural History and Science of Lisbon: Taxonomy, Provenance, and Historical Context

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 188, Issue 4, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Objectives This study reviews Mozambique's non‐human primate collection housed at the National Museum of Natural History and Science (MUHNAC) in Lisbon. The collection originates from the Zoological Missions of Mozambique (1948 and 1955) carried out under Portuguese colonial administration. The objectives of this work were to: i.

Comprehensive Listing of 208 Nova White Dwarf Masses as the Primary Determinant of Spectral Class and Light-curve Class

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
For Galactic novae, I calculate and collect a comprehensive catalog of 208 measures of white dwarf (WD) masses ( M _WD ) and 232 measures of average V magnitudes in quiescence ( V _q ). These are collected into a comprehensive catalog of most fundamental

White Dwarf Photospheric Abundances in Cataclysmic Variables. III. Five Dwarf Novae with an Evolved Secondary Donor Star

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
In the last two decades infrared spectroscopy has brought mounting evidence, in the form of weak CO features together with enhanced ^13 C, of the presence of CNO-processed material in the atmosphere of the donor star of some nonmagnetic cataclysmic ...

Late Superhumps in WZ Sge-Type Dwarf Novae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We report on the detection of very stable modulations with periods unexpectedly (~0.5%) longer than superhump periods during the slowly fading stage of WZ Sge-type superoutbursts in three systems, GW Lib, V455 And and WZ Sge.

RNA m1A methyltransferase TRMT61A promotes colorectal tumorigenesis by enhancing ONECUT2 mRNA stability and is a potential therapeutic target

open access: yesCancer Communications, Volume 45, Issue 12, Page 1616-1644, December 2025.
Abstract Background The role of N1‐methyladenosine (m1A) in cancer is poorly understood. Here we explored the function of RNA methyltransferase TRNA methyltransferase 61A (TRMT61A) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and its potential as a therapeutic target. Methods RNA m1A levels were assessed through liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry.

Low-metallicity Nova Explosions: A Site for Weak rp-process Nucleosynthesis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Classical novae are common cataclysmic events involving a binary system of a white dwarf and a main-sequence or red giant companion star. In metal-poor environments, these explosions produce ejecta differently from their solar counterparts due to the ...

Hubble Space Telescope STIS Spectroscopy of Long-Period Dwarf Novae in Quiescence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present the results of a synthetic spectral analysis of HST STIS spectra of five long-period dwarf novae obtained during their quiescence to determine the properties of their white dwarfs, which are little known for systems above the CV period gap ...

Plant functional traits shape the provision of ecosystem services to Indigenous communities in western Amazonia

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 12, Page 3313-3329, December 2025.
Abstract Context. Exploring how Indigenous People interact with plants through their functional traits allows us to understand the ecological bases of plant selection. Functional traits can help explain why certain plants are consistently chosen for specific purposes across diverse cultural contexts.

Dwarf Nova Outbursts and Superoutbursts [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
Dwarf nova outbursts provide an almost unique opportunity of getting an insight into the nature of viscosity in accretion disks or, within the α- disk approach, of putting some constraints on α. In particular, the strong dependence of the viscous time-scale on viscosity itself permits us to estimate a almost directly from the observed time-scales.
