Globular clusters and dwarf spheroidal galaxies [PDF]
Abstract Traditionally, globular clusters and dwarf spheroidal galaxies have been distinguished by using one or more of the following criteria: (i) mass, (ii) luminosity, (iii) size, (iv) mass-to-light ratio and (v) spread in metallicity.

Dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the M81 group of galaxies
Astronomische Nachrichten, 2009AbstractWe study the properties of the dwarf galaxy population in the nearby interacting M81 group of galaxies. In particular, we are deriving the metallicity distribution functions, the ages and the star formation histories of these dwarf galaxies based on data from the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys and the Sloan Digital Sky ...

Searches for dwarf spheroidal galaxies
Astrophysics, 19751. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are encountered, it would seem, more often than previously assumed [9]. 2. The tendency for them to be concentrated around galaxies of high luminosities [8, 9] is not very pronounced. 3. The distribution of Sculptor type dwarfs in the space we studied is not uniform.

On the Formation of Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies
Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 1979Abstract In order to explain why the mass density of dwarf spheroidal galaxies is so low, the following hypothesis is proposed: dwarf spheroidals were born as dense systems but afterward they have expanded due to the supernova-driven gas ejection.

The properties of dwarf spheroidals are reviewed with emphasis on the newly discovered Sextans system, as well as on the star formation histories, the dark matter content and the abundance — luminosity relation of these galaxies. The relation of dwarf spheroidals to other dwarf galaxies is also discussed.
