Past, present and future of local crop evolution

Promoting agrobiodiversity is a promising strategy for mitigating the negative effects of climate change on global food security. We highlight the central role evolutionary processes play in harnessing the potential of local crops by integrating genomics, archaeology, ethnobotany and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).

Iron (Fe) deficiency limits the physical health, cognitive development, and economic output of billions of people globally, especially children and productive‐age women. Tef is an underutilized and stress‐resilient crop, which is becoming popular for its grains containing high bioavailable Fe and has the potential to mitigate Fe deficiency.

Mechanisms of turbulent burning in magnetic white dwarfs

The process by which subsonic deflagration flames transition to supersonic detonations plays a critical role in both terrestrial and astrophysical environments. In particular, detonation initiation is central to understanding how and when white dwarfs become Type Ia supernovae.
