Mechanisms for Dwarf Nova Outbursts and Soft X-ray Transients [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
I review models trying to explain dwarf-nova outbursts and soft X-ray transients. The disc-instability model for dwarf-novae is still in its preliminary state of development: its predictions depend very strongly on the unknown viscosity mechanism. It is also doubtful that a {\sl pure} disc-instability phenomenon will be able to describe {\sl all} types

Dry Weight Reduction in Mechanically-dwarfed Tomato Plants1

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Horticultural Science, 1977
Abstract Brief, daily mechanical disturbance reduced dry weight gain as well as shoot elongation of tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Kokomo). Tactile (thigmo-) and vibrational (seismo-) stimulation of leaf surfaces increased leaf diffusive resistance and decreased ...

Key flowering genes including FT-like genes are upregulated in the vasculature of apple dwarfing rootstocks

open access: yes, 2014
The Malling 9 (M.9) dwarfing rootstock is widely used in apple breeding and commercial cultivation to shorten the juvenile period, reduce vegetative growth and increase flowering of the scion. A segment of M.9 stem (interstock) or M.9 bark grafted into a

What Do We Know About Scope 3 Emissions in Small‐ and Medium‐Sized Enterprises? Mapping Current Knowledge and Advancing a Theory–Practice‐Oriented Framework

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Although SMEs comprise over 90% of firms globally, research on their engagement with Scope 3 (value‐chain) greenhouse gas emissions remains limited. This PRISMA‐guided systematic review synthesises 49 SME‐relevant studies to develop a theory‐informed, practice‐oriented framework for more credible and sustained Scope 3 engagement.

The Environmental Quenching Mechanisms of Field Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Abstract Field dwarf galaxies not actively forming stars are relatively rare in the local Universe, but are present in cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. We use the TNG50 simulation to investigate their origin and find that they all result from environmental effects that have removed or reduced their gas content.

Data_Sheet_1_Molecular Dissection Unveiling Dwarfing Effects of Plant Growth Retardants on Pomegranate.docx

open access: yes, 2022
Dwarfed stature is a desired trait for modern orchard production systems. One effective strategy for dwarfing cultivation is exogenously applying plant growth retardants (PGRs) to plants.

The Governance Gap: Democratizing Drug Development Through Decision Architecture

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Drug development is most exposed to governance failure where it can least afford it, in global health. The field has more predictive power than at any point in its history and roughly the same failure rate it had a decade ago. We argue that this paradox persists because the field has invested heavily in prediction science while neglecting decision ...

Transcriptomics and Metabolomics Reveal the Dwarfing Mechanism of Pepper Plants Under Ultraviolet Radiation

open access: yesAgriculture
As a globally significant economic crop, pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) plants display excessive plant height (etiolation) in greenhouse production under an undesirable environment, leading to lodging-prone plants with reduced stress resistance.

Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis of CPMAX2 in Citrange

open access: yesHorticultural Plant Journal, 2016
Transgenic citrange lines with rolABC genes behave rosette branching and extreme dwarfing. To explore the regulatory mechanism of plant hormones in axillary shoot growth of transgenic citrange, a full length cDNA of CPMAX2 was cloned from citrange ...

Kinetic Contribution to the Arbitrary Order Odd Frequency Moments of the Dynamic Structure Factor

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT An exact expression is derived for the kinetic contribution to the odd (arbitrary order) frequency moments of the dynamic structure factor via a finite summation that features averages of even (all lower orders) powers of the momentum over the exact momentum distribution.
