Body composition by DXA

open access: yesMedicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1995
Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is unquestionably the method of choice for the assessment of bone mass. Recent generations of DXA instruments also have the capability of assessing soft tissue mass, thereby providing a three-compartment model of body composition, i.e., bone mineral, fat, and bone-free lean masses.

Identifying coeliac disease in DXA referrals [PDF]

open access: yesOsteoporosis International, 2014
Dear Editor, Hjelle and colleagues [1] draw attention to the association of coeliac disease [CD] with fracture and discuss whether patients presenting with idiopathic osteoporosis should have serological testing for CD. Apart from the complications affecting the bone, they also draw attention to the possibility of increased morbidity and mortality in ...

Gestational Melatonin Supplementation Attenuates Maternal Sleep Deprivation‐Induced Steatohepatitis Susceptibility in Offspring

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Maternal SD during pregnancy enhances the development of diet‐induced NASH in adult offspring of both sexes through an NR4A3‐dependent mechanism, characterised by heightened inflammation and increased apoptosis. Maternal melatonin supplementation effectively alleviates this increased susceptibility to NASH in offspring.

Association of liver enzymes and lipid profile with body fat distribution in Mexican university students

open access: yesArchivos Latinoamericanos de Nutrición
Introduction: Evidence suggests that the type of adipose tissue distribution contributes to a higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. It has been observed that visceral adipose tissue is highly lipolytic, and lipid distribution is primarily ...

Evaluation of iNSiGHT VET DXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) for assessing body composition in obese rats fed with high fat diet: a follow-up study of diet induced obesity model for 8 weeks

open access: yesLaboratory Animal Research, 2019
We examined the precision, accuracy, and capability of detecting changes of Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) for the measurements of total-body weight (TBW), total-body fat weight (TBFW), and total-body lean weight (TBLW) in an 8-week follow-up ...

Fermi Coordinates and Penrose Limits

open access: yes, 2006
We propose a formulation of the Penrose plane wave limit in terms of null Fermi coordinates. This provides a physically intuitive (Fermi coordinates are direct measures of geodesic distance in space-time) and manifestly covariant description of the ...

High protein consumption in trained women: bad to the bone?

open access: yesJournal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 2018
Background It has been posited that the consumption of extra protein (> 0.8 g/kg/d) may be deleterious to bone mineral content. However, there is no direct evidence to show that consuming a high-protein diet results in a demineralization of the skeleton.

Use of magnetic resonance imaging to predict the body composition of pigs in vivo

open access: yesAnimal, 2013
The objective of the study was to evaluate whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers the opportunity to reliably analyze body composition of pigs in vivo. Therefore, the relation between areas of loin eye muscle and its back fat based on MRI images

Global action-angle coordinates for completely integrable systems with noncompact invariant submanifolds

open access: yes, 2007
The obstruction to the existence of global action-angle coordinates of Abelian and noncommutative (non-Abelian) completely integrable systems with compact invariant submanifolds has been studied.
