Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Imaging of single infrared, optical, and ultraviolet photons using distributed tunnel junction readout on superconducting absorbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Single-photon imaging spectrometers of high quantum efficiency in the infrared to ultraviolet wavelength range, with good timing resolution and with a vanishing dark count rate are on top of the wish list in earth-bound astronomy, material and medical ...

Strongly self-absorbing C⁎-dynamical systems, III [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematics, 2017
This is a continuation of the study of strongly self-absorbing actions of locally compact groups on C-algebras. Given a strongly self-absorbing action \gamma: G \curvearrowright \mathcal{D} , we establish permanence properties for the class of ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Dynamic absorber for ropeway gondola using Coriolis force

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2008
Wind-induced swinging of ropeway gondola can be reduced using dynamic absorbers. To maximize the performance of conventional dynamic absorbers, their location should be as high as possible. However, absorbers can not be installed at high positions due to

Simulasi Peredam Getaran TDVA dan DDVA Tersusun Seri terhadap Respon Getaran Translasi Sistem Utama [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A system can be subjected to excessive vibration if the force acting on it approaches the natural frequency of the system. The way to do it, especially for single operating frequency, is adding the dynamic vibration absorber.

Strongly self-absorbing 𝐶*-dynamical systems

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 2017
We introduce and study strongly self-absorbing actions of locally compact groups on C ∗ \mathrm {C}^* -algebras. This is an equivariant generalization of a strongly self-absorbing C ∗ \mathrm {C}^* -algebra to the setting of C

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Generation and Quenching of Intensity Pulsations in Semiconductor Lasers Coupled to External Cavities [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
The behavior of self-pulsing and nonpulsing lasers coupled to external cavities is investigated experimentally and theoretically. We investigate the dependence of the pulsation characteristics on the external cavity length using a saturable absorber ...
