Theory of the ultrafast mode-locked GaN lasers in a large-signal regime

open access: yes, 2011
Analytical theory of the high-power passively mode-locked laser with a slow absorber is developed. In distinguishing from previous treatment, our model is valid at pulse energies well exceeding the saturation energy of absorber.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Noise reduction due to structural modification in the coupled structural-acoustic system

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
With the development of box structure like a car or train, noise reduction is required for such structures with cabin inside. Noise problem with structural vibration has been studied as coupled structural-acoustic system.

Wave absorption control of a lumped mass system using a dynamic absorber with variable stiffness property

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2023
Severe vibration may occur in structures such as high-rise buildings and bridges according to wind and seismic excitations, and in large space structures due to their lightweight and flexible constitution.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Vibration reduction of traffic signal pole by dynamic absorber that generates electrical power

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The authors propose an absorber that generates electrical power in order to not only suppress vibration but also get electrical energy when many traffic signal poles are oscillated by wind, traffic turbulence.

Research on a nonlinear quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolator with a vibration absorber

open access: yesScience Progress, 2020
A negative stiffness mechanism consisting of a spring and cylinder is proposed, and a grounded dynamic vibration absorber is designed based on a quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolator to constitute the vibration isolator with a vibration absorber system.

Data-based fault detection in chemical processes: Managing records with operator intervention and uncertain labels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Developing data-driven fault detection systems for chemical plants requires managing uncertain data labels and dynamic attributes due to operator-process interactions.

Absorbing-state phase transitions with extremal dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2005
Extremal dynamics represents a path to self-organized criticality in which the order parameter is tuned to a value of zero. The order parameter is associated with a phase transition to an absorbing state. Given a process that exhibits a phase transition to an absorbing state, we define an ``extremal absorbing" process, providing the link to the ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
