Rapid Assessment of Intertidal Wetland Sediments

open access: yes, 2012
Urbanization of coastal areas poses a severe threat to ecologically valuable intertidal wetlands. This paper presents a pragmatic approach called Rapid Assessment for Intertidal Wetland Sediments (RAITWS) for evaluating the sediment quality of intertidal

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

A fuzzy probability Bayesian network approach for dynamic cybersecurity risk assessment in industrial control systems

open access: yes, 2018
With the increasing deployment of data network technologies in industrial control systems (ICSs), cybersecurity becomes a challenging problem in ICSs. Dynamic cybersecurity risk assessment plays a vital role in ICS cybersecurity protection.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Integrated vulnerability assessment: the relevance “to” and “of” regional and urban planning

open access: yes, 2005
The paper focuses on three main questions: - How relevant is multi-risk assessment to Regional and urban planning? - Why spatial planning is relevant to the vulnerability assessment? - Why to work out integrated vulnerability maps?

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Development of a dynamic clinical assessment for finals

open access: yesBritish Dental Journal
AbstractDifferent dental schools assess ‘finals' in different ways. Assessment of applied clinical knowledge and skills are commonly based on either objective structured clinical examinations or multiple ‘long cases'. While iterative changes naturally occur throughout education and assessment, it is important to step back and question what skills ...

Experimental determination of dynamic allowance for traffic loading in bridges

open access: yes, 2012
Transportation Research Board 89th Annual Meeting, Washington DC, 2010-1-10 to 2010-1-14Bridge codes adopt values for dynamic allowance in traffic load models that are necessarily conservative to cover for an entire range of bridges with different ...
