The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Constant Ductility Site-Specific Yield Point Spectra for Seismic Design

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Displacement-based seismic design (DBSD) is an iterative process because the strength and stiffness of a structure are needed to be adjusted in order to achieve a specific performance level, which is extremely inconvenient for designers in practice ...

Refined Seismic Design Method for RC Frame Structures to Increase the Collapse Resistant Capacity

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In current structural design codes, elastic vibration modes are used for seismic design. However, when a structure is subjected to strong earthquakes and inelastic response or even when collapse damage is observed, the damage state is always unevenly ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Experiment Investigation and Numerical Simulation of Snowdrift on a Typical Large-Span Retractable Roof

open access: yesComplexity, 2019
Retractable roofs are commonly used in designing large-span stadiums because of their versatility. However, retractable roofs are subject to sudden changes in shape, and thus, factors in addition to those considered for conventional roofs need to be ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Dynamic heterogeneities in the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of simple spherical spin models

open access: yes, 2003
The response of spherical two-spin interaction models, the spherical ferromagnet (s-FM) and the spherical Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (s-SK) model, is calculated for the protocol of the so-called nonresonant hole burning experiment (NHB) for temperatures ...

A Survey of Languages for Specifying Dynamics: A Knowledge Engineering Perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A number of formal specification languages for knowledge-based systems has been developed. Characteristics for knowledge-based systems are a complex knowledge base and an inference engine which uses this knowledge to solve a given problem.
