EEG Monitoring of Temporal Anticipation in Coincidence Anticipation Timing Tasks: A Scoping Review With Recommendations

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
This scoping review maps EEG studies of temporal anticipation in coincidence anticipation timing (CAT) tasks. Eleven studies were identified, revealing high methodological variability. We provide practical recommendations to standardize CAT task design and EEG procedures, aiming to improve reproducibility and support future research in this emerging ...

Spatial sound for computer games and virtual reality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this chapter, we discuss spatial sound within the context of Virtual Reality and other synthetic environments such as computer games. We review current audio technologies, sound constraints within immersive multi-modal spaces, and future trends.

Optimized Simultaneous Assessment of Subcortical and Cortical Auditory Responses Through a Frequency‐Tagged Roving Paradigm

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 62, Issue 11, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Assessment of auditory‐evoked responses across multiple stages of the ascending auditory pathway provides complementary insights into neural integrity for research and clinical contexts. However, traditional approaches, constrained by conflicting optimal parameters, require separate sessions for different response types, limiting efficiency ...

Decoding Auditory Working Memory Load From EEG Alpha Oscillations

open access: yesPsychophysiology, Volume 62, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Working memory (WM) enables temporary retention of task‐relevant information for imminent use. Increases in visual WM load are accompanied by elevated contralateral delay activity (CDA) and EEG alpha‐band power. While most WM research focuses on the visual domain, it remains unknown whether similar EEG responses also reflect WM load in the ...

Neural Coding of Fundamental Frequency and Processing of Discrete Pitch Accents in Middle Age

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 62, Issue 9, November 2025.
Middle‐aged adults exhibited reduced neural encoding of fundamental frequency (F0) in response to both syllabic and naturalistic speech compared with younger adults. They also showed less distinct cortical processing of pitch accents, reflected by increased classification uncertainty in a neural network model.

The Effect of Attentional Locus on Multisensory Congruence: An ERP Study

open access: yesPsychophysiology, Volume 62, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Extensive research has established the pivotal role of the congruence effect for multisensory integration of audiovisual stimuli. However, little is known about whether the attentional locus on one or other sensory domain has a differential impact on the neurophysiological dynamics of the congruence effect, particularly under conditions of ...

Multi-Modal Perception for Selective Rendering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A major challenge in generating high-fidelity virtual environments (VEs) is to be able to provide realism at interactive rates. The high-fidelity simulation of light and sound is still unachievable in real-time as such physical accuracy is very ...

Alzheimer's disease and its progression reduce pyramidal cell gain and connectivity

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 21, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects neurophysiology by loss of neurons, synapses, and neurotransmitters. A mechanistic understanding of the human disease will facilitate new treatments. METHODS Magnetoencephalography was recorded during an auditory mismatch negativity paradigm from healthy adults (n = 14) and people with symptomatic ...

Messaging in mobile augmented reality audio [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Monen käyttäjän välinen asynkroninen viestintä tapahtuu tyypillisesti tekstiä käyttäen. Mobiileissa käyttötilanteissa tekstinsyöttö voi kuitenkin olla hidasta ja vaivalloista.
