Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Graph Transformations and Game Theory: A Generative Mechanism for Network Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Many systems can be described in terms of networks with characteristic structural properties. To better understand the formation and the dynamics of complex networks one can develop generative models.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Recursive Smooth Ambiguity Preferences [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper axiomatizes an intertemporal version of the Smooth Ambiguity decision model developed in Klibanoff, Marinacci, and Mukerji (2005). A key feature of the model is that it achieves a separation between ambiguity, identified as a characteristic of

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Visco-elastoplastic constitutive model for remolded loess based on infinitesimalization of plastic elements

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
Based on the theory of infinitesimalization of plastic elements and infinite series, the visco-elastoplastic constitutive model for remolded loess is established through the triaxial creep tests under loading and unloading conditions and verified by the ...

Dynamic scaling and quasi-ordered states in the two dimensional Swift-Hohenberg equation

open access: yes, 1992
The process of pattern formation in the two dimensional Swift-Hohenberg equation is examined through numerical and analytic methods. Dynamic scaling relationships are developed for the collective ordering of convective rolls in the limit of infinite ...
