Performance of the Fully Digital FPGA-based Front-End Electronics for the GALILEO Array

open access: yes, 2014
In this work we present the architecture and results of a fully digital Front End Electronics (FEE) read out system developed for the GALILEO array. The FEE system, developed in collaboration with the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) collaboration ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Decentralized event-triggered control over wireless sensor/actuator networks

open access: yes, 2011
In recent years we have witnessed a move of the major industrial automation providers into the wireless domain. While most of these companies already offer wireless products for measurement and monitoring purposes, the ultimate goal is to be able to ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Event-triggered gain scheduling of reaction-diffusion PDEs

open access: yes, 2020
This paper deals with the problem of boundary stabilization of 1D reaction-diffusion PDEs with a time- and space- varying reaction coefficient. The boundary control design relies on the backstepping approach.

Decentralized Event-Triggering for Control of Nonlinear Systems

open access: yes, 2014
This paper considers nonlinear systems with full state feedback, a central controller and distributed sensors not co-located with the central controller. We present a methodology for designing decentralized asynchronous event-triggers, which utilize only

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Event-triggered adaptive neural finite-time tracking control for non-strict feedback stochastic nonlinear systems with unknown time-varying control directions and input nonlinearities

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2023
This paper focuses on dynamic-surface-based event-triggered adaptive neural finite-time tracking control for a category of non-strict feedback stochastic nonlinear system subject to unknown time-varying control directions, and input nonlinearities ...
