Dynamic force simulator for multifinger force display
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1996In this paper, the authors present a dynamic force simulator (DFS) for force feedback in human-machine systems. They propose a virtual world model with two force flows: one is the force flow from human to an object, the other is the force flow from an object to human.

The dynamics of the cantilever in a Transverse Dynamic Force Microscope (TDFM) are presented by means of irrational transfer functions. An approximate model of the cantilever can then be obtained using a finite number of rational transfer functions. The shear force for this model can be estimated by adaptive schemes. Numerical simulations are presented

Force generation by dynamic microtubules
Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 2005The assembly and disassembly of microtubules can generate pushing and pulling forces that, together with motor proteins, contribute to the correct positioning of chromosomes, mitotic spindles and nuclei in cells. In vitro experiments combined with modeling have shed light on the intrinsic capability of dynamic microtubules to generate force, and ...

Leibniz’s mature physics is most noted for the centrality of the notion of force and the development of the dynamics, the science of force. This chapter examines the development and challenges of this “dynamics project,” active from 1676–c. 1700, from its initial motivations and methodological maturation to its important convergence with the systematic

Dynamic force microscopy in liquids
Journal of Applied Physics, 1994We applied dynamic force microscopy in a liquid environment to silanized and derivatized glass surfaces, InGaAs, as well as to biological materials such as hexagonally packed intermediate layers of deinococcus radiodurans. The vertical and lateral resolution were estimated to be <1 Å and 7–10 nm, respectively.

Nonlinear dynamic perspectives on dynamic force microscopy
Ultramicroscopy, 2003Dynamic force microscopy (DFM) utilizes the dynamic response of a resonating probe tip as it approaches and retracts from a sample to measure the topography and material properties of a nanostructure. We present recent results based on nonlinear dynamical systems theory, computational continuation techniques and detailed experiments that yield new ...

Forced Wetting Dynamics: A Molecular Dynamics Study
Langmuir, 2003We consider molecular dynamics simulations to study a polymerlike liquid meniscus between two parallel plates moving at constant opposite velocities. We investigate contact line motion versus the speed of the solid and the shapes of the liquid interface for several liquid/solid interaction amplitudes.

This chapter examines the semantics of force dynamics, from its cognitive linguistic origins to recent formal approaches. Force dynamics proves to be a fruitful addition to the ontology, allowing natural representations of the distinction between energy and change, interactions within and between events, and ceteris paribus effects, among other ...

Cantilever dynamics modelling for the Transverse Dynamic Force Microscope
53rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2014This paper studies the dynamics of the cantileverin a Transverse Dynamic Force Microscope (TDFM). A seriesexpansion approach for the irrational transfer functions ofmodelling the cantilever dynamics is presented in terms ofan infinite sum of second-order rational transfer functionsand a finite dimensional linear time invariant (LTI) systemmodel is ...

Force Dynamics in Language and Cognition
Cognitive Science, 1988“Force dynamics” refers to a previously neglected semantic category—how entities interact with respect to force. This category includes such concepts as: the exertion of force, resistance to such exertion and the overcoming of such resistance, blockage of a force and the removal of such blockage, and so forth.
