Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Comparative Study on the Deterioration of Surface Physical and Mechanical Properties of Sandstone Cultural Heritage Under Different Dissolution Conditions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In Southwest China’s high-temperature, humid, and rainy climate, ancient sandstone structures face significant deterioration due to acid rain and water accumulation, which cause dynamic and static dissolution.

Application of the impact microindentation method for estimation of the mechanical characteristics and defects of the structure of carbon-base composites

open access: yesВесці Нацыянальнай акадэміі навук Беларусі: Серыя фізіка-тэхнічных навук, 2019
The problems of measurement the physical and mechanical properties of carbon materials by the dynamic microindentation method are considered. The description of the gage design for measurements is given. This gage allows creating different initial energy

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
