Intertrochanteric fractures are among the most common fracture in elderly and are correlated with an average 1-year mortality of 25 %. Increased mortality after hip fracture could be related to blood loss and comorbidities. We compared two groups of patients treated with percutaneous compression plating (PCCP) and dynamic hip screw (DHS) with the ...

Dynamic hip screw versus DHS blade
We biomechanically investigated whether the standard dynamic hip screw (DHS) or the DHS blade achieves better fixation in bone with regard to resistance to pushout, pullout and torsional stability. The experiments were undertaken in an artificial bone substrate in the form of polyurethane foam blocks with predefined mechanical properties.

A Review of Tip Apex Distance (TAD) in Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) Fixation of Femoral Fractures
Femoral neck fractures commonly occur in elderly osteoporotic females, and include extra-capsular fractures (intertrochanteric and pertrochanteric), and usually treated with the Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS). This is based on tension band principle which allows the screw to slide within the barrel to enable compression of the fracture when the patient bears ...

The Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) enables the proximal fragment to collapse in a controlled and concentric fashion, thereby locating its own position of maximum stability. The present prospective study was conducted in the Post Graduate Department of Orthopedics, SKIMS, MCH Bemina, Srinagar on 60 patients with unstable inter-trochanteric fractures and ...

Osteosynthesis of Intracapsular Femoral Neck Fractures by Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) Fixation
Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2009The treatment of femoral neck fractures shows a relatively high number of poor outcomes, usually due to late complications, such as avascular necrosis of the femoral head or pseudoarthrosis. The latter may develop when the osteosynthesis of osteoporotic bone fails. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate a group of patients treated by osteo-

The treatment of trochanteric and femoral neck fractures using the dynamic hip screw (DHS)
Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 1992Surgical Principles The goal of treating fractures in the trochanteric region is to restore the medial support in line with Shenton’s arch. The function of the compression trabeculae is insured by a screw introduced into the femoral head and neck. The shaft of the screw slides in a tunnel which forms part of the side plate.

[Intertrochanteric fractures of the hip treated with dynamic hip screws (DHS)].
Chirurgia narzadow ruchu i ortopedia polska, 2001The history and concept of sliding fixation is presented. Treatment results of 72 cases with 76 intertrochanteric fractures treated with DHS were analysed. Fractures were classified according to the Kyle scale into 4 different types. 61 males and 11 women age ranging from 46 to 72 years (average age: 65 years) were treated surgically.

[Initial results with the AO Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS)].
Zeitschrift fur Orthopadie und ihre Grenzgebiete, 1985The report is based on a follow-up of over 54 osteosyntheses employing the Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) of the AO on the proximal femur. The patients, of an average age of 72 years, exhibited the following lesions: fractures of 7 femoral necks, 43 fractures in the pertrochanteric region, 3 reverse fractures and 1 subtrochanteric metastasis.

[The dynamic hip screw (DHS) in femoral neck fractures].
Helvetica chirurgica acta, 1993Out of 224 patients with femoral neck fractures, 40 patients have been treated by ORIF with the dynamic hip screw, whereas 27 have been fixed by large cancellous bone screws and 148 femoral heads were replaced by a prosthesis. The ORIF with dynamic hip screw has been performed as an emergency intervention within 6.2 hours after accident.
