[Intertrochanteric fractures of the hip treated with dynamic hip screws (DHS)].
Chirurgia narzadow ruchu i ortopedia polska, 2001The history and concept of sliding fixation is presented. Treatment results of 72 cases with 76 intertrochanteric fractures treated with DHS were analysed. Fractures were classified according to the Kyle scale into 4 different types. 61 males and 11 women age ranging from 46 to 72 years (average age: 65 years) were treated surgically.

[Initial results with the AO Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS)].
Zeitschrift fur Orthopadie und ihre Grenzgebiete, 1985The report is based on a follow-up of over 54 osteosyntheses employing the Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) of the AO on the proximal femur. The patients, of an average age of 72 years, exhibited the following lesions: fractures of 7 femoral necks, 43 fractures in the pertrochanteric region, 3 reverse fractures and 1 subtrochanteric metastasis.

[The dynamic hip screw (DHS) in femoral neck fractures].
Helvetica chirurgica acta, 1993Out of 224 patients with femoral neck fractures, 40 patients have been treated by ORIF with the dynamic hip screw, whereas 27 have been fixed by large cancellous bone screws and 148 femoral heads were replaced by a prosthesis. The ORIF with dynamic hip screw has been performed as an emergency intervention within 6.2 hours after accident.

A study was performed to assess the effect of clockwise rotational torque onto the fracture configuration in unstable intertrochanteric fractures. The premise is that rotational torque in the sagittal plane imparted during screw insertion can lead to a potentially unstable construct in LEFT-sided DHS fixations when compared to the RIGHT-sided ones ...

[Analysis of the treatment failures for intertrochanteric fractures with dynamic hip screw (DHS)].
Zhongguo gu shang = China journal of orthopaedics and traumatology, 2010To analyze the reasons and related factors of failures in the treatment of intertrochanteric fracture with dynamic hip screw (DHS) and to increase the therapeutic level of intertrochanteric fracture. All the 78 cases of intertrochanteric fractures were treated with dynamic hip screws from Dec. 1998 to Dec.

Dynamic hip screw (DHS) results in intertrochanteric fractures

Mechanical failure of Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) fixation in intertrochanteric fracture of the femur.
The Medical journal of Malaysia, 2003We studied 60 intertrochanteric fractures of the femur fixed with Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS). There were 10 cases (16.7%) with cutting-out of device through femoral head and neck. Stable fracture pattern, postero-inferior and central position of screw in the femoral neck and head produced high percentage of good result, whereas anterior or superior ...

[DHS (Dynamic Hip Screw) osteosynthesis in an atypical situation].
Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2003The author describes a spiral fracture of the distal femur with a fragmented zone that occurred in the place of the distal end of a splint applied because of the previous treatment of a subtrochanteric fractures by osteosynthesis. Atypical approach including a DHS implant was used to treat the spiral fracture.

The DHS-implant system is a technically simple and widely used operative treatment modality for pertrochanteric fractures of the femur. In unstable 4-part fractures rotation of the head and neck fragment around the lag screw and significant impaction might lead to lateralisation of the greater trochanter and therefore to marked shortening.

The dynamic hip screw (DHS) has been widely adopted as the implant of choice in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures. There have been attempts over the years to improve on the DHS lag screw design in order to reduce failure in the form of "cut out".
